For 40+ years I’ve had the privilege of providing legal services to arts and entertainment clients exclusively. Our clients are primarily based in Canada, but they do business in the arts and entertainment sectors all over the world.

I am passionate about music, writing and performing it.  Music and art have been the constant focus of my entire life.  In fact, I started my career in the music business as a struggling musician.  During that time I learned how difficult it is to succeed as an artist in the music industry.  No one seemed to get any respect as a musician.

I worked at many odd jobs to make my living, including working as a messenger for a large downtown Toronto law firm.  It was after this time that I made a life changing decision to change career directions and become an entertainment lawyer with the specific aim in mind of helping artists achieve their goals and better recognition and rights in the music industry.  Yes, I went to law school to make a difference.

That is what I set out to do and that is what I do today.  That is why I am here and do what I do, every day I look forward to doing that for you.

As further a commitment to the profession and the field, prior to practicing, I wrote the groundbreaking legal text, including “Musicians and the Law in Canada” (www.carswell.com/product-detail/musicians-and-the-law-in-canada-4th-edition/) which has been in print for over 30 years. It helped establish and has maintained my reputation as an industry leader in the music industry in Canada.  I am also the co-author of “Artist Agreements" contracts for multi-media and visual artists CARFAC Ontario 2015.  Other publications that I wrote include "Music Law Handbook for Canada" 10 Essential Legal Articles Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 published by Seraphim Editions.

Believing that practicing law is a profession, not just a business, I co-founded Canada’s first summary advice legal service for artists of all disciplines, ALAS, which has been operating continuously since 1986 and services approximately 400 artists every year www.alasontario.ca.  I continue to serve on the board of ALAC (Artist and Lawyers for the Advancement of Creativity) which is responsible for maintaining ALAS and have done since its inception.  I also teach at Metalworks Institute www.metalworksinstitute.com

My firm is a skilled team of professionals that deliver top-notch legal services that competes with our peers anywhere throughout the world.  We have been trusted legal advisers for over 30 years for many thousands of clients.  This is the type of peace of mind that we can provide you.

Our firm is knowledgeable, experienced and ready to assist by providing legal services in a professional manner and on a timely basis, keeping in mind that a law practice is a service and a profession, not just a business.

We look forward to being of service to you.

"From the underground to the majors, we represent your best choice."
